For many years now, the pulmonary hypertension community has been trying to narrow down on the true incidence of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) following pulmonary embolism. The study by Durrington et al. [1] in this issue of the European Respiratory Journal undoubtedly gets us closer, suggesting a cumulative incidence of 2.1%; however, with 41% of the entire post-pulmonary embolism cohort missing, we are still a way off truly knowing this figure.
