Graphene-like MXene-based microwave absorbers and shields: Latest progress and perspectives

MXenes have great potential for efficiently shielding and absorbing microwaves because of their unique layered structure, tunable active surface, outstanding electrical conductivity, and processability. Nonetheless, there are certain challenges and bottlenecks in the present development process. In this review, the electromagnetic response mechanism of MXene-based microwave absorbers and shields is first introduced. Then, the latest significant research results in categories from the perspectives of MXenes and hybrids, structural designing, processing strategies, and functions are presented. Additionally, the significance and limitations of these study findings are examined. Subsequently, the existing bottlenecks and challenges in the field are examined, and several detrimental phenomena are objectively criticized. Lastly, we offer our perspectives on development priorities and ideas for future research. As a timely response to overviewing the progress, this review can help establish the mechanism-material-structure-processing-performance relationship of MXene-based microwave absorbers and shields. Furthermore, it is thought that this review can offer a prospective perspective for upcoming advancements.
